Acupuncture Point: Yin Tang
The procerus muscle is part of a group of muscles that allow frowning, the pulling of the eyebrows together.
A hyperactive, strained procerus muscle can contribute to deep frown lines (a.k.a. the 11s) between the eyes.
Yin tang is a very commonly used (because of its instant effect) on the face that are used in Traditional Chinese Medicine theory to calm the mind, disperses wind and clears heat.
The location of Yin tang between the eyebrows is commonly used to represent wisdom and enlightenment in Buddhism, and in many yogic traditions, known as the “third eye”.
In a cosmetic rejuvenation treatment with me, this point is usually one of the first points I would insert a needle in to activate its grounding properties, and is also used to relieve tension forehead, to reduce the pulling and wrinkling of the skin between the eyebrows. Synergistic and antagonistic muscles to the procerus will also be needled if required to relax the whole face and lift the forehead.
